Introduction

Alice has practised at St Philips Chambers since successfully completing her pupillage here in 2008.

During her training as a barrister, she was awarded both a Lord Denning Scholarship and a Wolfson Scholarship by Lincoln’s Inn.

Alice specialises in Family law- particularly Children Act and Domestic Violence proceedings- as well as Court of Protection and Social Care work. Prior to commencing pupillage, Alice pursued a Human Rights Law LLM and worked as an Accredited Immigration and Asylum Caseworker. She retains a deep interest in cases involving human rights and immigration/asylum issues.

Alice is conscious of the changing nature of the Bar and the practice of Family law in particular. She has therefore undertaken both Public Access training and accreditation as a Family Mediator.

In 2012, Alice was elected to the National Executive Committee of the Association of Lawyers for Children, having previously acted as the Midland Circuit Representative to the Young Barristers’ Committee of the Bar Council.

She has studied and worked in France and speaks French fluently.

Private Law Children and Domestic Abuse

Alice is very experienced in both private Children Act and Family Law Act proceedings.

Within the field of private children law, Alice regularly deals with cases involving serious and complex welfare concerns, including allegations of physical and sexual abuse, drug and alcohol misuse, mental health and mental capacity issues, and implacable hostility to contact. She is also experienced in the field of internal relocation and temporary and permanent removal from the jurisdiction. She has dealt with numerous cases that have required the separate representation of the child or children concerned, both with and without a guardian. She is well used to handling multi-day contested hearings, including fact finding hearings, appeals, committals and enforcement proceedings.

Alice has extensive experience of cases involving domestic abuse and Family Law Act applications, including those for non-molestation, occupation and forced marriage protection orders

Public Law Care and Adoption

Alice frequently represents Local Authorities, parents, children and extended family members in a range of public children matters. She regularly deals with cases concerning physical, emotional and sexual abuse, domestic violence and chronic neglect. She has conducted numerous multi-day contested interim and final hearings, as well as fact finding hearings involving non-accidental injuries and sexual abuse. Alice has acted for parents with mental capacity issues, both when the Official Solicitor has been required and when an advocate has been used. Alice has appeared in the High Court on behalf of the police and the Crown Court on behalf of the Local Authority in highly sensitive disclosure disputes; and she has dealt with Local Authority applications for forced marriage protection orders. Alice has experience of both appealing and opposing appeals and seeking emergency stays of interim and final care orders
