James is the senior clerk for St Philips London and leads the London clerking team, working closely alongside the Chief Clerk, Joe Wilson. As well as managing the barristers’ practises, James is ultimately responsible for the planning, promotion and development of our London operation across a number of different specialist practice groups, ensuring that a first rate service is provided by barristers and staff alike.
James commenced his clerking career in London in 2002 and has since gained considerable experience clerking within a number of prestigious chambers, across several areas of law and jurisdictions.
In late 2009 James took a sabbatical to spend 9 months travelling the world, and during this time enjoyed a 3-month period working as a barristers clerk in Australia with “List A Barristers” based in Melbourne. Upon his return to the UK he joined St Philips Birmingham where he become an integral part of the commercial clerking team.
James’s main duties include daily liaison with instructing solicitors, fair allocation of work, management of barristers’ diaries and fee negotiation.
James is a member of the Institute of Barristers’ Clerks.
Outside of work, James enjoys going to the gym, boxing, squash, as well as travelling and socialising.
